Head of Unit, DG for Research & Innovation, European Commission
Dr. José-Lorenzo Vallés has graduated in Physics and Chemistry. After obtaining a PhD in Physics from the University of Barcelona, he worked for four years as a postdoctoral researcher in Computational Physics at Courant Institute of New York University and the University of Minnesota (USA), and later worked as Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona. Since joining the European Commission in 1991, he first worked at the Institute for Advanced Materials in the Netherlands, and later as S&T Counsellor at the EC Delegation in China. In 1999 he moved to DG Research and Innovation in Brussels, where he has been Head of Unit for "Materials" and Head of Unit for "New Forms of Production". He is currently Head of Unit for "Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Biotechnologies".
