Corporate Information Standards Manager, Office of the CIO, BAE Systems, United Kingdom

With forty years in the aerospace industry, Howard Mason is responsible for information standards and engineering business solutions in the Office of the CIO at BAE Systems, including corporate implementations of the ISO 10303 STEP standard for projects and links to customers.


He is the Co-chair of the US aerospace industry Business Technology Interoperability Committee, which recommends interoperability standards for industry adoption. He is also Vice-Chair of the corresponding European ASD Strategic Standardisation Group, with responsibility for transatlantic coordination.


He leads the ISO activities on industrial data as Chairman of ISO/TC 184/SC 4, which received the 2007 Lawrence D. Eicher Leadership award for excellence in standardisation. He is Co-chair of the OASIS PLCS Technical Committee, which is exploiting extensions to STEP to cover the complete product lifecycle.


He chairs the Management Group for the MoU between ISO, IEC, ITU and UN/ECE with responsibility for coordination of Electronic Business standards worldwide.


He also serves as Heritage Manager for BAE Systems in the UK, with responsibility for the corporate archives at Farnborough, and management of Heritage Product and Project activities including community investments, support for museums, heritage centres and display teams, and the Company historic aircraft at Shuttleworth.
