GARTH WILLIAMS.

Mr Williams works at the Department of Science and Technology in Pretoria, South Africa as Director: Advanced Manufacturing Technologies where he is responsible for technology policy in relation to the manufacturing sector.
Before this Mr Williams worked in Johannesburg at Mintek, a public research organisation that specialises in minerals processing and extractive metallurgy.  He was initially a precious metals researcher-cum-special projects coordinator, and later moved into an HR environment where he oversaw the company's human capital development and science promotion programmes.  He started his working career in Cape Town working as the plant metallurgist at GKN Sinter Metals Cape Town, a powder metallurgy-based component manufacturer, followed by a short stint at the R&D Division of Nampak, a diversified packaging manufacturer.
Mr Williams has qualifications in Materials Engineering from the University of Cape Town and a qualification in innovation systems from the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation at the Tshwane University of Technology.  He furthers his education through MOOCs in his spare time.
