General Director for Industrial policy, competitiveness and small and medium enterprises, Italian Ministry of Economic Development
Stefano Firpo, 42 years old, is General Director for Industrial policy, competitiveness and small and medium enterprises at the Ministry of Economic Development. He was Chief of the Italian Minister of Economic Development’s Technical Secretariat, holding this position also during the Monti and Letta Government. He designed and implemented the Italian legislation on innovative startups and SMEs and worked, as contributor of the “Destinazione Italia” Report and member of the Finance for Growth group, at the liberalization of corporate bonds and on recent measures to boost investments in R&D and intellectual property (patent box).
In the past, he worked as an Economist at the European Central Bank and at Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group as Head of the CEO’s Staff office.
He graduated in Political Sciences at the University of Turin, and got a post-graduate specialization in International Economics at the London School of Economics.
