Dr. Byung-Wook Choi is currently a Principal Researcher at the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology (KITECH) and now serves as Chairperson of the International Cooperation Committee of KITECH. Dr. Choi served as Executive Director of the International Affairs Division at KITECH for three years from May 2009 to October 2012 and also served as Director of the KITECH-USA Technology Cooperation Center located in California, U.S. for two years from February 2015 to January 2017. Moreover, Dr. Choi served as Director of the Korea IMS Center for several years.
Prior to his work at KITECH, Dr. Choi has been a Senior Researcher of the Advanced Center for Control and Instrumentation at the Seoul National University for a year of 1995. Dr. Choi has been a Manager of the Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd(HDEC), working in the areas of Electromechanical and instrumentation design and services from 1978 to 1989. During his work at HDEC, he spent five years from 1985 to 1989 as a Section Chief at the overseas branch offices both in London and Frankfurt for engineering coordination and commercial contracting services.
Dr. Choi served as Managing Director of IMS International’s Inter-Regional Secretariat Office during a 30-month leave-of-absence from KITECH and was responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the Inter-Regional Secretariat Office and the proactively discharging all its responsibilities, providing visionary leadership and publicly focusing for IMS International, from 2005 to 2007.(IMS stands for Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, and is a name of international body that collaborates multi-laterally among advanced countries in manufacturing.) Dr. Choi also served as Director of International Technology Cooperation Division at the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) during a 12-month leave-of-absence from KITECH from November 2012 to October 2013 and was responsible for overall management of international technology cooperation affairs for the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE). Dr. Choi was awarded the Korean Ministry of Education, Science & Technology medal, and the President of KITECH Awards. He currently serves as the Adjunct Professor of the University of Science and Technology, Korea. Dr. Choi was selected and published both in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2016 (33rd Edition, 2016, The Marquis Who’sWho, U.S.) and also in 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century (10th Edition, 2016, The International Biographical Center, U.K.). Dr. Choi wrote three books: co-translated the book titled “U.S. Manufacturing” into Korean in 2005; co-edited the book titled “Global Solutions to Challenges in Manufacturing – Selected Projects from IMS International Program” in 2007; and co-edited the book titled “Frontiers of Assembly and Manufacturing – Selected Papers from ISAM’09” in 2010. Dr. Choi holds various intellectual properties which include three patents and more than fifty software programs in the areas of control and factory automation. Dr. Choi received his Ph.D. from Leicester University, United Kingdom in 1994, MSc from Imperial College, London in 1990, and BS from Seoul National University in 1978, respectively.
