Begoña Cristeto Blasco, since February 2014 holds the post of General Secretary of Industry and SMEs from the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. Her main challenges as head of this organization include the development and monitoring of the general policy of the Department in relation to industry and small and medium enterprises.
Begoña Cristeto, 44, was born in Salamanca. She is a graduate in Economic Sciences from Madrid’s Autonomous University and started work as an economic advisor to the government in 1988.
Prior to her appointment as General Secretary of Industry and SMEs, she has been CEO of the National Innovation Company (ENISA), was General Secretary of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development, she served as Deputy General Chief of the Budget Office, was CEO of the State Corporation for the Promotion and Attraction of Foreign Investment, S.A. (Invest in Spain), Deputy Director of Economic and Trade Offices and Territorial Coordination and she had previously worked as an economic advisor in one of Spain’s commercial offices in Miami in 2000-2004.
Begoña Cristeto managed the Spanish Institute for Foreign Trade IT departments in 1999 and 2000, and in these two years started up the first website of ICEX and the Institute’s information center. She has also worked at different management jobs at the Economy Ministry and also at the Ministry of Industry Tourism and Commerce, while lecturing in international trade to DBA and MBA students, as well as other postgraduate courses in international business management.
